• ORCHIDS BY NIGHT   by Claude Hamilton, Hamlyn Orchids Ltd.

I thought that your show was very well organized and I was very surprised
to see the number of members that came out and actively participated the
organization and running of the show. I was pleasantly surprised to hear
the show being advertsed on the radio and must say congratulations to the
organizers of he show. Many orchid societies have great difficulty finding
enough members that will help. I thought that it would probably be a good
thing to have shows once per year rather that once every two years but
wonder if you have good membership participation because the shows are not
    frequent.

The staging of the show was excellent. It was evidently well planned and
well executed and showed imagination and portrayed the theme very well.
Congratulations are certainly in order for those responsible for staging
the show. The exhibits were on the whole quite good. There could have been
a few more exhibits as some areas appeared sparse. Perhaps next time more
members will have more exhibits and will bring them to the show. It was
good that you had an area where plants purchased could be potted.

The show was very well attended by the public and certainly indicates that
the public were informed and have a appreciation for orchids.

I must also take this opportunity to advise members that your climate is
not hotter and drier than everywhere else and therefore unique. It is hot
and it is dry but these are not the real problem that growers face. I that
that the wind is a far more serious problem and that it would be good for
many of you to try to find ways of countering the drying action of the wind
by providing some protection from wind.

    Kindest Regards!
    Claude

  • CURACAO ORCHID CLUB SHOW
    April 6 - 8, 2001 - Prowin Motors Showroom, Curacao, N.A.
Small but very imaginative show. The theme - "ORCHIDS BY NIGHT" , very well designed and executed by very enthusiastic club members headed by Club President Mrs. Nehed Lo A Tjong. The star of the show was a rotating display featuring plants of Brassavola nodosa (Brassavola fragrans), native to the island.
Plants were on sale by the club, an Arachnis cut flower grower from Surinam, and by Hamlyn Orchids Ltd.
